[SEMU-YÉOL LECTURE] 2018 May Walking Lecture
Understanding Seoul- Seeing Our City with Different Eyes
Lecturer: Daniel Taendler
Architect, Co-director of urban detail. Seoul

In the lecture on April 2, the audience will be provided with knowledge about historic city structures in Seoul and how they contribute to the fascinating fabric of the metropolis. The walking lecture will cover several neighborhoods in Seoul, providing first-hand examples of the subject of the lecture. The focus will be on the Euljiro neighborhood in the Jung-gu District, where the urban detail. Seoul office is located.
The goal of the lecture is to provide an enhanced understanding of and appreciation for old neighborhoods like those in Euljiro that are often dismissed as shabby and not worthy of interest and are seen as potential areas for profit-oriented redevelopment.
This lecture will show how areas that are not regarded as note-worthy can often house interesting historical remnants, in this instance from the Joseon Dynasty, the Japanese colonial period, and the post-war military dictatorships.
